Store Closing

Dear Friends,

I first want to thank everyone for being so supportive and amazing this past year. I never thought it would be possible for me to start and run a successful business while taking care of two children. When I first started Dress Up Jane, my son had just turned one and my daughter was not yet diagnosed with Autism. I thought I had a million extra minutes on my hand, with a supportive husband and family on my side I thought I could do this all on my own. Unfortunately that is not the case, and the last few months I started to feel tired, sick, and worn out from all the "hats" I had to wear throughout the day. We talked about hiring a person to help out, but that was just another person's schedule we would have to juggle into our own crazy lives. The more I thought about what I really wanted at this point in my life, the more I realized I would have to give up Dress Up Jane.

For me it's a bittersweet goodbye. I loved meeting so many new people, I love the clothes, and I believe in my business. In the end though, I am getting to spend more time with my family and for that giving up Dress Up Jane is worth it.

As for the consignments, they will all be returned to the owners within the next two weeks. As for the rest of my stock, I will be selling everything online at 50% off starting tonight and ending Monday September 3rd. Thank you everyone, it has been an incredible experience and I have met so many incredible people, it has been an amazing year!

Thank you,
Rebecca Young & Family

Well it's that time of the week again! I have a secret, I actually like Mondays. My family thrives on routines and for me after a hectic weekend, Mondays give me back our order. This weekend was a great weekend! This weekend we went out to a nice dinner (Maddens, in Bryan TX) I was able to fit back in my rehearsal dinner dress ( Vivienne Tam) and I had the top tier of or cake remade from Cake Me Away Bakery

Eating Cake On Our Wedding Day

Tuesday Tie Up- Baby Gap

Seriously, I LOVE collages. I have such a hard time choosing one picture, and now I finally figured out that I don't have too! Must search "collages" on Pintrest as soon as I am done with this post...

Ok on to the post did you know that brands such as Gap, Old Navy, Gymboree recycle through their lines season after season? You would think that since they have endless numbers of designers on hand they would constantly switch it up, but they don't. Brands know what works for them and if something is popular within a line or a line as a whole, they keep it or change it with minimal variations (case in point check out the 2 denim skirts I have on the collages).  Because of this I decided to start a new weekly blog post (so I can use my new collage making skills) to show you how similar the styles are and by buying gently loved or in the case of the daisy shirt never made it out of the closet and onto the child (we have a bad case of this in our house) you can literally save hundred if not thousands of dollars a year. I'm not saying to never go buy the new style (please buy and don't forget to consign with me when you're done!), but newer is not always better, and sometimes I think they should leave well enough alone (in the case of the new distressed shorts..what were they thinking?!). So without further ado, here is this week's Baby Gap Match Up (and seriously how much better does Dress Up Jane's Collage look compared to Baby Gaps..I think mine is "So Cute")...

Difference in price $114.73. Difference in style 0.
What would you do with the $114 dollars you saved?

Five Favorite Finds Friday

Yay for Friday and Spring Break! When I was growing up Spring Break always fell on or about Easter. When I think of Spring, I think of flowers, the bunnies and chicks my parents would get us for Easter (although I don't remember what happened to them after that), pastels, road side farm markets, spring cleaning. A fresh start.

So here are five of my favoite Spring finds:
1. Baby Gap Cardigan (If only we didn't live in TX). Gap is having a 30% off sale right now!

2. How Adorable is this Vintage Lucy dress? I keep looking for a resale one!

3. Tote Bag From Fabric and Handle

4. Book: One Bite at a Time by Simplemom.net. I love Tsh and her blog and can't wait to get started!
5. Heirloom Tomatoes at our farmers market. Let the feasting begin!

Happy Valentine's Day!

My daughter Grace has mild Autism. For the last two years she has been getting help for her symptoms, and every day life is a roller coaster of highs and lows. Every Tuesday we make a 4 hour trip to Austin for her to get three different kinds of therapy: Speech, OT, and Behavioral. Tuesday's are exhausting and I am often left feeling tired, dejected and sad. We often focus on the "bad" behaviors, the lack of improvements, and what we could be doing more of.

In honor of it being Valentine's Day and it being a Tuesday, I wanted to focus on the things I love about my sweet daughter because I think her and I need to hear these things more often.

1. I love that she loves to read and can never be without a book (just like her me).

2. If she can't be naked then she must be in full princess gear.

3. She loves Lady GAGA, and is able to channel her inner GAGA without ever seeing a picture of her.

4. Her smiles and giggles because they are truly so rare.

5. The ability to make me melt when she says "I love you the best".

6. She loves homemade items

7. For beating to her own drum.

8. Teaching me patience.

9. Teaching me that it's OK to say "no" to other people.

10.  Teaching me how to a better mother every single day.

Now off to make some cupcakes before she returns! Have a Happy Valentines Day!

Valentine's Day Giveaway!

I love Valentine's day! I still remember the 1st Valentine's Day I spent with my husband. We were only dating a few weeks, and I decided to cook for him. I ended up making him vegan alfredo with tons of peppers. The sweet guy that he was ate it without complaint and hated every bite. I still have the gift he gave me, a mixed CD tied with a red bow. In the eleven years that passed, It's the most memorable one for me, because in a crowded bar surrounded by friends we decided that we would "officially" become boyfriend and girlfriend (yes cheesy and sweet), and have been together ever since!

Anyways I was invited to join a group of bloggers in a giveaway (and you know how much I love doing giveaways)! The Lucky winner will win a $40 Restaurant Gift Card and a $35 Victoria Secrets Gift card! Follow The Rules Below!

Mothering Monday

Co-Sleeping....

I was never one of those moms who wanted to co-sleep. I was to afraid of SIDS (like fanatically afraid, and now consider myself a SIDS expert), but my daughter had other plans for us. So from ages 5 months to 11 months she slept in-between my husband and I every night and every morning from her first feeding until the alarm went off.

When Grace was around 16 months old, I noticed that she wasn't like the other kids her age and one day she woke up and stopped wanting to snuggle with us. When she was 2 and had to move her into a big girl bed, I thought surly when she transitioned from a crib to a big girl bed she will want either her father or I to sleep with her. Again I was wrong, as soon as we were done reading her books at night, she would scream at us to get out of her bed.

I'm sure her behaviors has always been sensory related, and so I've had to accept the fact that I am helping her by respecting her feelings, even though at the end of a hard day with lots of meltdowns all I really want to do is snuggle up next to her and watch her finally be content with her world.

So to my surprise three weeks ago in the wee hours of the morning, my Grace (along with princess castles, My Little Ponies, princesses, and whatever else she decided to sleep with that night) started climbing inside my bed next to me and sleeping with both Matt and I until Phin decides it's time for us to wake up. I do find that it's kind of uncomfortable and I have had to kick my husband out of bed a few times (he didn't mind, that's how great he is), that I haven't had a solid night sleep since she started,  and I'm worried that something is bothering her and she can't express it. Whatever the case may be, I love snuggling up next to her (ponies and all) knowing this is a brief moment in time, and at any moment it can stop as soon as it began. In the meantime I will try to get all my snuggles in and enjoy every second of it!

Now when my Phin starts joining us it will be officially time to buy a bigger bed!

Choosing Joy and New Changes in 2012

It's been a while since I have done a blog post. I have learned a lot in my first four months of business:
1. The start up is a lot easier than the daily running of a business
2. My friends will understand that there are boxes of clothes all around my house
3. My customers have been amazing, and I have been loving every minute of it
4. I still get excited by every order I receive
5. My husband is more amazing than what I give him credit for
6. The WAHM community is fantastic, they keep me going and continue to inspire me.

With that being said, I have been playing around with how I want to run Dress Up Jane. When I originally started I wanted to do giveaways (because really who does not like free stuff), feature fabulous mom businesses (because I think it's important to support one another), blog (because I enjoy writting), and still list clothing and run the consignment side of Dress Up Jane.

So what do you have to look forward to:
1. Every weekend I will post 70-100 new items to the store!
2. Adding Toys, Maternity, Mom-made Products and more to the Store!
3. Monthly Giveaways and Occasional Flash Giveaways
3. More Blog Posts
4. Pre-Sale Discounts for Consignors
5. What We're Wearing Wednesday- Send your kids photos to DressupJane@gmail.com in their Dress Up Jane clothing, and if we feature your child get a special discount!
6. Once a Month Markdowns 10%,20%, 30%, and occasional 50%!
7. and for the immediate future a Free Gift with purchase! A Choose Joy Bracelet from Lil Blue Boo. If you don't know her story check out her blog, she is amazing, and because of her she inspired my New Years resolution! Can you Guess What is is?

Anyways That is all for now, I will try and update along the way. I hope everyone is enjoying the start of a New Year and if your lucky enough enjoying some snow (it was 70 degrees in TX today)!

My Joys

Rebecca
